Synthetic fibers are fibers produced in a laboratory environment and obtained from synthetic materials, unlike natural sources. These fibers offer a number of advantages and provide functionality, durability and variety in apparel production. There are some important reasons why synthetic fibers are preferred in the yarn industry:

• It is generally more durable compared to natural fibers. These fibers are more resistant to friction, wear and fading. For this reason, clothes made from synthetic fibers can often last longer.
• It generally has features that are easy to maintain and do not require ironing. These fibers are less susceptible to creases and wrinkles and are generally machine washable.
• It tends to repel water better than natural fibers. This allows clothes to dry quickly and wick moisture away from the skin. Synthetic fibers may also have the ability to absorb water, which is advantageous in some specific uses (eg sportswear).
• Synthetic fibers can be produced in different shapes and properties. This offers a wide range of products to meet different demands. For example, nylon is a durable fiber, while polyester is a lightweight and breathable fiber. Synthetic fibers can also have properties such as elasticity, thermal properties, UV protection and waterproofing.

Synthetic fibers provide innovation and functionality in the yarn industry. However, the production and use of synthetic fibers also brings environmental impacts. Therefore, sustainability efforts should also include research to improve the environmental performance of synthetic fibers. The development of recyclable synthetic fibers can reduce waste and help use natural resources more efficiently.
